    What the data shows

    • The UAE carries roughly two live openings for every one in Saudi Arabia, and refreshes far faster — a quarter of UAE postings were published in the last seven days.
    • Technology, engineering and sales are the three largest hiring functions in both markets.
    • Saudi Arabia skews more technical and project-heavy: Primavera, Revit, PMP and ISO references appear in a noticeably larger share of postings than in the UAE.
    • Arabic is named in 24.7% of Saudi postings against 14.2% in the UAE — the single biggest written difference between the two markets.
    • Remote work is rare in both: under 3% of live postings mention it.
    • Almost half of all postings in both countries still name Excel, including senior and technical roles.

The size and speed of each market

On 27 September 2026 our index held 4,133 actively listed UAE roles from 2,285 different employers, and 1,980 Saudi roles from 1,092 employers. That is close to a two-to-one ratio of live openings in favour of the UAE, from roughly twice as many hiring companies.

The bigger difference is refresh rate. Of the live UAE postings, 1,050 were published within the previous seven days — about one in four. In Saudi Arabia the equivalent figure was 266, roughly one in seven. Practically, a UAE search you ran a week ago is already substantially out of date; a Saudi one ages more slowly.

Both markets are overwhelmingly on-site. Only 92 UAE postings and 37 Saudi postings mention remote working, so under 3% either way. If you are searching for a remote GCC role, expect a very small pool rather than a hidden one.

    Where the roles actually sit

Hiring in both countries is heavily concentrated in one or two cities. Dubai alone accounts for 1,952 live UAE postings and Abu Dhabi a further 873, with Al Ain a distant third at 55. In Saudi Arabia, Riyadh dominates at 1,391, followed by Jeddah at 122, Dammam at about 111 and Al Khobar at about 81.

Riyadh is now the single largest city market in the GCC after Dubai — worth knowing if you have been searching Jeddah or the Eastern Province and finding thin results. A wider country-level search usually returns far more than a city-level one in Saudi Arabia.

    Which functions are hiring

Technology leads in both markets: 524 live IT and software roles in the UAE and 230 in Saudi Arabia. Engineering follows closely (459 and 239), then sales and business development (426 and 196) and finance and accounting (378 and 161).

The proportions tell you more than the raw counts. Construction and real estate makes up a visibly larger share of Saudi hiring (147 of 1,980) than of UAE hiring (187 of 4,133), consistent with a market running large infrastructure programmes. Conversely, administration, hospitality and retail are relatively larger in the UAE — 263 and 181 postings respectively against 90 and 65 in Saudi Arabia.

What employers write in the job description

We counted how often each tool, credential or language is named in the text of live postings. The result is a picture of what employers write down, which is not the same thing as what they will eventually test you on — but it is exactly what an applicant tracking system reads.

Excel is named in roughly 48% of postings in both markets, including many technical and senior ones. If your CV lists tools but omits it, that is a cheap gap to close.

Arabic is the clearest divide: 24.7% of Saudi postings mention it against 14.2% in the UAE. If you read or speak Arabic at any useful level, state the level explicitly rather than leaving it off.

Saudi postings lean more to structured project delivery. PMP appears in 4.9% of them against 2.8% in the UAE, Primavera P6 in 2.4% against 0.8%, Revit in 1.6% against 0.6%, and ISO references in 4.2% against 2.6%. Cybersecurity is also named more often in Saudi Arabia (5.8% vs 3.8%).

The UAE leans more to cloud and data tooling: Python (4.4% vs 1.9%), Azure (3.4% vs 1.7%), AWS (2.6% vs 2.0%) and Kubernetes (1.5% vs 0.9%).

    Live postings by function

Active postings on 27 September 2026. A posting can match more than one function, so the bars do not sum to the market total.

How each function splits across the two markets

Every hiring function plotted by its live UAE postings against its live Saudi postings.

Tap or hover a bubble for its function name and counts. Bubble size reflects combined volume across both markets. Points below the diagonal are relatively more UAE-weighted; points closer to the vertical axis are Saudi-weighted.

    What to do with this

If you are targeting the UAE

    • Re-run your search weekly. A quarter of the market turns over in seven days, and early applications reach a shorter queue.
    • Name your cloud and data tooling explicitly — Python, SQL, Azure, AWS — using the same words the posting uses.
    • Search Dubai and Abu Dhabi separately; together they hold roughly two thirds of all live UAE postings.
    • Keep Excel on the CV even in senior or technical roles. Half the market still asks for it by name.

If you are targeting Saudi Arabia

    • Search at country level first. Riyadh holds seven times the volume of Jeddah, and city-only searches hide most of the market.
    • Put project-delivery credentials near the top: PMP, Primavera P6, Revit and any ISO standards you have worked to.
    • State your Arabic level plainly if you have one. A quarter of postings mention the language.
    • Expect a slower refresh cycle — roles stay open longer, so an application a week after posting is not necessarily late.

    For both markets

    • Mirror the exact wording of the posting for tools and certifications. Scanners match strings, not synonyms.
    • Do not build a search strategy around remote roles; under 3% of live GCC postings mention them.
    • Check your CV against a specific posting before sending it rather than using one general version.

Tailor your CV for these roles

Scan your CV against a live posting and see what is missing before you apply.

    Methodology and caveats

    • Source: the Dexter CV GCC Job Index, our ongoing market intelligence engine that continuously indexes verified public job postings and hiring activity across the six GCC countries. Snapshot taken 27 September 2026.
    • Sample: 4,133 actively listed UAE postings and 1,980 actively listed Saudi postings — 6,113 in total, out of 8,448 live GCC postings. "Actively listed" means the posting was re-verified as live in our most recent crawl cycle.
    • Function grouping is derived from keyword patterns in job titles. A posting can match more than one function, so the grouped counts do not sum to the market total.
    • Skill percentages are the share of live postings in that market whose description text mentions the term. They measure what employers write, not verified hiring requirements or interview criteria.
    • Job supply is not a measure of competition: these figures say how many roles are advertised, not how many people apply to them.
    • Coverage depends on what our index reaches. Roles advertised only on a company careers page or through an agency may be absent, so treat these as directional market signals rather than a complete census.
    • No personal data, candidate data or individual user activity is used in this report.
